PROJECT: #TOGETHER FOR HUMAN GOALS • TOPIC: THE PROBLEM OF WATER ON EARTH
Before starting with the explanation I want the students to think about their previous knowledge related to the subject. I propose them a group brainstorming, a useful technique for students to explain themselves and to learn from their partners. • CONTENTS: - The world water pollution (agriculture, industry and tourism). - The problem of water: Africa (scarcity, droughts in Malawi, illnesses caused by contaminated water). - The problem of water in Spain (waste, unbalanced distribution, drought, hydroelectric works…). - Sustainable Development Goals: GOAL nº 6 Actions to ensure good water and sanitation for all (talk about United Nations, 17 goals, local and global actions, political compromises).
This is the most important content, so I ask them to see different videos:
· Clean water: A long journey from the source to our tap:
· SDG 6 Clear water and sanitation:
· What can you do to achieve SDG?:
• DRIVING QUESTION:
WHERE DOES TAP WATER COME FROM? • COOPERATIVE TECHNIQUES: The students work in groups of 4. Each member of the group has to investigate one of the following questions:
- How many times do you open the tap at home?
- Where does this water come from?
- How can you get water in your city if you lived in the Roman Empire?
- How can you get water if you lived in Malawi?
Then, students share the information with their partners and create a joint report. • PRODUCT:
In 2015, world leaders agreed to 17 Global Goals (officially known as the Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs). These goals have the power to create a better world by 2030. To ensure clean water and sanitation for all, we all have to take action The United Nations want you to make the world aware of the dangerous problems connected with water.
In order to achieve that:
- You have to create a FLIER related with this catchword:
TOGETHER FOR HUMAN GOALS
You could do it handmade or with the CANVA app. - You have to include a catchy slogan, images that illustrate all the aspects you want to communicate and QR links to videos or web pages. - You have to explain your work to the class. To do so, the students have to record a video describing their proposals and share the video into a cooperative board made with PADLET. - The best five fliers will be selected and exhibited in the High School Board.
