Por Mónica Revelles:
1. TOPIC:
The use of rocks
2. CONTENTS:
-Identify and classify rocks.
-Evaluate the importance of rocks for humans and managing these resources in a sustainable way.
3. DRIVING QUESTIONS:
What can rocks be used for? Why do you think it is important to manage rock resources responsibly?
4. COOPERATIVE TECHNIQUES:
ACTIVITY 1:
Students will see a video about rocks extraction and its environmental impact. After this, they will have to work in groups, in which they are going to have different roles: speaker, facilitator, writer and material manager. They must answer the template SEE what do you see in the video?, THINK What do you think is going on? and WONDER What does it make you wonder?
ACTIVITY 2:
Working in groups, the students must search information about the different uses of the different types of rocks: sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous. Each group is going to work with a type of rock and in each group the students will divide their task into: building materials, ornamental rocks, source of fossil fuels and source of minerals for technological use. Each one will have to work in one of this topics and, then, they will have to put all the information together to finish their task in group.
The final product could be a poster or an oral presentation. Each group will expose their work to the class.
LAST ACTIVITY:
To evaluate them I would do a round table asking them questions related to the most important contents.
